One Man’s Disobedience

“For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” - Romans 5:19 [1]

Adam’s sin is variously referred to as an offense (Romans 5:14), a transgression (Romans 5:16, 17, 18) and an act of disobedience. Perhaps many words are needed to capture the full magnitude of what Adam did. The original word for disobedience means inattention; the original word for transgression means a slip or fall; and the original word for offense means a going over. Because Adam didn’t pay proper attention to his Father’s words, he slipped and fell over the cliff into the valley of the shadow of death.
