I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

  1. How to be fruitful? Jesus said the kingdom of God is like a man who scatters seed on the ground. “Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how” (Mark 4:26, 27). The seed grows all by itself. The farmer doesn’t make it happen.
  2. But if he tries to make the seed grow, by digging it up or tugging on the stalk, he’ll ruin the harvest.
  3. Jesus said, “Apart from me you can do nothing.” We can’t bear His fruit, and we can’t make ourselves grow. From start to finish, He does it all. But we can sabotage that process by trying to make things happen.
  4. We hear, “Produce fruit or God will chop you off,” and before you know it we are trying instead of trusting. We’re digging up the seed, tugging on the stalk, and ruining the harvest.
  5. How do we live the life that is found in Christ? It is remembering that Jesus is the Vine, the root, stem, branches, twigs, leaves, flowers, fruit and all indeed. I don’t have to make myself a branch. The Lord Jesus tells me I am a branch. I am part of Him and I have just to believe it and act upon it.
  6. How do we bear His fruit in our lives? By not trying. By learning to rely on His love and trusting in the Father’s pruning. It’s His fruit we bear.
