For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision [1] availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. [2][3][4]
- ↑ For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision. - Romans 2:25 (KJV)
- ↑ This was a radical statement to the Jews of Paul’s day (see Romans 3:19). They believed salvation could not be obtained without adhering to the commands of the Old Testament Law, of which circumcision was considered to be the foundation. This would be the equivalent of saying to some religious people today, “Church membership, water baptism, holiness, and so forth don’t matter. The only thing that counts is being born again” (see John 3:3). Religious rites mean nothing. The only thing that counts is becoming a new creation (see 2 Corinthians 5:17).
- ↑ 5:17 Whether a man is circumcised or uncircumcised is meaningless to me. What really matters is the transforming power of this new creation life. (TPT) (The Passion Translation)
- ↑ King James Version (KJV)
