John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word [1], and the Word [2] was with God, and the Word was God. [3]

  1. The word became flesh (see John 1:14). The word in this context speaks of Jesus Christ and how He transcends throughout all eternity.
  2. The Word is translated as logos (λόγος) in Greek. It speaks of the spoken Word of God. God’s Word is effective: God speaks, and things come into being ( Genesis 1:3, Psalms 33:6, Isaiah 55:10, 11).
