  1. Everything flows from God first, its a revelation of who he is. God does not love us because we loved him first. God loves us because he is love (1 John 4:8). He is the source from which all love flows. In the new covenant of grace, this nearly-to-good-to-be-gospel, God takes all the initiative: He loves us first, he forgives us first (Colossians 2:13), and he accepts us first (Romans 15:7). And as we receive from the abundance of his love, we are able to love, forgive, and accept others.
